Have you ever been in a fight? Whether it was a friendly snowball fight, a disagreement that went as far as fists flying, or even just a fight or battle in a video game? Hopefully more of the aforementioned type since God calls us to turn the other cheek (Matthew 5:39, Luke 6:29), but the point of staying in the fight remains. The most famous example of this being the story of David. Now, his fight was a holy one, in which the people of God (Israel) were being mocked and threatened by Philistines and their warrior champion, Goliath.
In this instance, I don’t recommend fighting others and being in sinful disagreements, but I do highly recommend that men stay in the fight with the same fervor as if we were putting on our gear and heading to war. We are in a constant battle for our spiritual lives, the souls of our families, and the souls of strangers we don’t yet know for the kingdom of God our creator. That gear we put on, is found in Ephesians 6, verses 14-17.
“Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;”
In verse 12 though, it says exactly WHY we need to put on the armor of God and prepare to fight…
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”
Men, I want to caution you to stay in the fight. Stand for God. Put on the armor of God. Stand together! Hold each other up with truth, love, and God’s righteousness. Fight with and FOR each other. For me, I had several men of God fighting for me, speaking truth to me, even when I wasn’t receptive to it or heading their advice. That didn’t stop them though. They listened to God, kept planting seeds in me, and they saved my life. Beyond that, God used them to save my family. Through their obedience to God, that’s at least two generations of men who will always know the presence of God, and hopefully more beyond that as well.
Be faithful men of God! Stay in the fight!
